Summer 2016 Awards

Last Sunday marked the final games of the regular season with only the first place position of the powerful Warriors locked in.  With a double header weekend, Goldeneye had control of the final standings, but were only able to split their weekend games while Toe Dragon gave the Warriors their only regulation time loss of the season.  Final standings:

 1st – Warriors

2nd – Brass Bonanza

3rd – Dirty Sprite

4th – Toe Dragon

5th – Goldeneye

For the first round of playoffs, the 9am game will be Toe Dragons vs Goldeneye playing an elimination game to determine who will challenge the Warriors in the 10:40 game.  Game 2 will be Dirty Sprite vs Brass Bonanza for a chance to play in the finals next week.

The much anticipated and highly desired end of season awards were also determined with a mixture of new and repeat trophy winners.

Congratulations to the Warriors for winning the President’s Trophy with a 10-1-1 winning record.   Repeating from last season are Jeremy Chen with the Vezina Trophy (Best Goalie) and Darren Magpayo with the Bill Masterton Trophy for his perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey.   Also coming back for some more awards are Steven Habbous with the King Clancy award of leadership and Idan Rozenblit with the Jack O’All Trades for most versatile player.

New to the award scene are Jeremy McIntyre as the winner of the GTA Foundation Award, Christian Gomes as the winner of the Selke Trophy (top defensive forward) and Ami Jacobson who was voted Most Improved Player.

Congratulations to double award winner Jason Crilly for winning both the Wingman Award for most assists and the Norris as best defenceman.

Finally, with a very impressive and record setting triple award win, Mr Ramin Khaze.  Winner of the Art Ross Trophy for most points, the Rocket Richard trophy for most goals and the Hart Trophy as league MVP.

Winter 2016 Recap & Summer 2016 News

Congratulations to Made Men, the Winter 2016 Season Champions!  They ended the season on a four game winning streak, dominating teams along the way and carrying that momentum throughout the playoffs.

Backstopping the Made Men with a shutout in the semis and a 6-2 victory in the finals, BK Mike was the winner of the Conne Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP.  I see some players adopting Mike’s strict game day diet to prepare themselves for the upcoming season.

Speaking of which, season 3 will be starting in a couple weeks with exhibition games on Saturday May 7th from 3-5:30pm.  It is important for all players to attend (especially newcomers) so captains can get familiar or re-acquainted with you.  The draft will take place right after the exhibition games.  If you can’t make it, please let us know via Facebook/email (info@gtainline.com).  Exhibition rosters will be posted by May 1st.

With the exception of this exhibition game, all other games will be played on Sunday mornings between 9-11:30am.

Thank you to all the players for a fantastic year and a special thanks to GMs and volunteers for all your hard work.  We couldn’t have done it without you.

Winter 2016 Awards

Greetings GTA Inliners,

The season 2 regular season has officially come to an end and what an interesting ending it was. With only the Icemen having secured first place and the President’s cup, the three remaining teams battled it out to determine the final standings.

The morning started with the Wise Guys trying to outsmart the first place team, only to have the Icemen freeze dry their competition and carve out a 5-4 victory.

In a race that was only separated by a single point, Made Men battled all their way up from last place to finish their regular season in 2nd place on the back of a 4 game winning streak. Playing the once dominant Dim Sum Mafia, Made Men poured cement boots on their rivals and sank them with a 5-0 defeat.

Congratulations goes out to perennial scoring leaders Corey Landsberg, for winning both the Art Ross (most points) and Rocket Richard (most goals) Trophies, and Idan Rozenblit for winning the Hart Trophy (most valuable) and Wingman Award (most assists). These two superstars once again battled each other with both scoring an impressive 3.64 points per game and just like the previous season, ended the season tied in points only to have Landsberg win on the strength of his goal scoring.

This season also ended with multiple players repeating as award winners with Tony Mooc as the winner of the King Clancy Trophy, Darren Magpayo winning the Bill Masterton Trophy and Vito Sanzo with the ever important GTA Foundation Award.

Shutting down the opposition were the trio of Lester Fernandes winning the Frank J. Selke Award, Dave Singh winning the Norris Trophy and Jeremy Chen with the Vezina Trophy.

Special mention should also go out to Lambert Choi as the winner of the Johnny B. Goode Award, Reza Khoshdel for winning the Most Improve Player Award, and Marco Melia and Danny Modaresi who both tied as winners of the Jack O’ All Trades. Lastly we need to close out by talking about Steven Habbous who’s relentless play, hustle and um…peskiness forced the GMs to create the PITA Award for being the biggest Pain In The Ass to play against.

Congratulations again to all of this season’s award winners. For a full recap, please go to http://www.gtainline.com/past-seasons/winter-2016/awards/.

Now onto the playoffs…

Summer League Update

4 updates this week:

1) We are already planning for Summer League. Since it’s our first summer season, we need to book the rink fairly quick. We have some flexibility on days, times and arenas. We are also considering making semi-formed teams but we need your feedback! Whether you are a returning or new member, please take a minute to fill out the survey at www.gtainline.com/summer. Even if you don’t plan on joining Summer League, we’d appreciate your response so we can backfill for you. And pass this along to any friends that would be a good fit for the league as we are looking to field 4-6 teams.

2) Danny Modaresi has volunteered to be Head Referee. He will work with all referees to ensure games are called fairly and with consistency. If you have any issues, speak with the game referees or Danny directly.

3) Stats are updated. Big games from the usual suspects; Ramin Khaze with 7 points, Lester Fernandes with 5 points and David Luong, Corey LandsbergAnthony Thomas & Idan Rozenblit with 4 points each. I predict multiple players will top the 50 point mark this year. At this rate, Ramin might score 50 GOALS.

4) FILL OUT THE SURVEY! WWW.GTAINLINE.COM/SUMMER.

Red Rover, Red Rover, We Call…

The 2016 Winter Season is officially underway with the completion of our exhibition games today.  GMs Marco, Bipen, Dave and Tony were in full evaluation mode as they made their final notes on their roster needs.

Just a couple housekeeping notes before releasing the team list.

  • Please remember that there will be two games a week, with the first one starting at 9:00am sharp to ensure we finish on time.
  • Registration fee is $150.  For anyone who hasn’t paid yet, you can either e-transfer it to me at derrick@leeshanok.ca or bring the cash to the game next week.
  • Now that the teams are assigned, we can now send in the jersey order, but for the next two weeks, we will be assigning dark or white colors to each team.  Please watch the website for which jersey to bring and try your best to use non-neutral colors like yellow, pink or gray to avoid confusion.
  • Dressing rooms will also be assigned each week for your team and will be posted on the website in advance.

So with all that taken care of, here are the teams!

Playoff Recap

SEMI-FINALS.  One Bangers vs 1st Class.  Six shots fired, bang bang bang bang bang bang.  Causes teams to be renamed… Six Bangers win over 3rd Class.

FINALS.  One Bangers vs One Direction.  Hey One Direction… bye bye bye (oops sorry, wrong boy band), bang bang bang…One Direction goes…down.  Story of their life.

Congratulations to the One Bangers, who gelled towards the end of the season and showed what it takes to be a champion.  Contributions were made by all members with every skater logging points while goalie Ronnie Tam allowed a mere 2.00 goals per game.  The Conne Smythe (playoff MVP) award goes to Steve Habbous who was a constant offensive threat and led the playoffs in goals scored.

Thank you to everyone for a great season 1.  We’ll see you all again for Season 2 starting January 10th with four new teams, four new General Managers, four new team names and some exciting changes to the game format.

Enjoy the holidays!

Awards, Awards & More Awards

The regular season of GTA Inline’s Season 1 ended today with a bang, finishing with multiple changes in the final player ranking for the regular season.

But let’s start off with the expected.  With first place already a lock leading up to this weekend’s games, One Direction won the Presidents’ trophy for best overall record in the regular season.  This gives them a bye in the first round of the playoffs next week and leaves them rested to play the winner of the semi-finals between the One Bangers and 1st Class.

Players from One Direction also secured the most individual awards this season with five.  Congratulations to Corey Landsberg, winner of the Hart Memorial Trophy as the league’s most valuable player;  Ben Lee as the winner of the Johnny B. Goode Award for player who exemplified selflessness and commitment to his team; and Jeremy McIntyre, who secured two awards, the James Norris Trophy for top all-around defenseman and the Are U. Kidding Award for most phantom assists.  Rounding out the winners from One Direction with a four goal onslaught this weekend was Matt Thomasson, winner of the Maurice Richard Trophy with 16 goals on the season (Danny Modaresi came in a distant 25th place).

Three awards were given to players from 1st Class with Bernard Tigno providing the final line of defence and winning the Vezina Trophy as top goalie; Thomas Chung won the Frank J. Selke Trophy as top defensive forward; and Tony Mooc won the King Clancy Trophy for his leadership qualities on and off the ice.

Rounding out the awards were players from the One Bangers, with a total of four awards.  For the important role he played in making Season 1 a reality, Darren Magpayo was awarded the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy for his dedication to hockey.  Vito Sanzo was awarded the GTA Foundation Award for his on and off ice contribution to the league.  The two final awards were handed out to Idan Rozenblit who won the Jack O. All Trades Trophy as most versatile player for his team and in the final and most surprising upset, the Art Ross Trophy as the regular season point leader.  With a huge 5 goal and 5 assist weekend, Idan stole the Art Ross from the grasp of Corey who had been the top points leader right from the start of the season.  Both Idan and Corey ended the season even in points with 29, however with the tiebreaker decided by most goals scored, Idan won out with 15 goals vs 14.

Congratulations again to all the winners and a huge thank you to all the volunteers who helped out as referees and scorekeepers.

A full list of the awards can been seen at www.gtainline.com/awards.

Oh yeah, and the website is updated. Congratulations to you for making it to the end of this post.
