Awards, Awards & More Awards

The regular season of GTA Inline’s Season 1 ended today with a bang, finishing with multiple changes in the final player ranking for the regular season.

But let’s start off with the expected.  With first place already a lock leading up to this weekend’s games, One Direction won the Presidents’ trophy for best overall record in the regular season.  This gives them a bye in the first round of the playoffs next week and leaves them rested to play the winner of the semi-finals between the One Bangers and 1st Class.

Players from One Direction also secured the most individual awards this season with five.  Congratulations to Corey Landsberg, winner of the Hart Memorial Trophy as the league’s most valuable player;  Ben Lee as the winner of the Johnny B. Goode Award for player who exemplified selflessness and commitment to his team; and Jeremy McIntyre, who secured two awards, the James Norris Trophy for top all-around defenseman and the Are U. Kidding Award for most phantom assists.  Rounding out the winners from One Direction with a four goal onslaught this weekend was Matt Thomasson, winner of the Maurice Richard Trophy with 16 goals on the season (Danny Modaresi came in a distant 25th place).

Three awards were given to players from 1st Class with Bernard Tigno providing the final line of defence and winning the Vezina Trophy as top goalie; Thomas Chung won the Frank J. Selke Trophy as top defensive forward; and Tony Mooc won the King Clancy Trophy for his leadership qualities on and off the ice.

Rounding out the awards were players from the One Bangers, with a total of four awards.  For the important role he played in making Season 1 a reality, Darren Magpayo was awarded the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy for his dedication to hockey.  Vito Sanzo was awarded the GTA Foundation Award for his on and off ice contribution to the league.  The two final awards were handed out to Idan Rozenblit who won the Jack O. All Trades Trophy as most versatile player for his team and in the final and most surprising upset, the Art Ross Trophy as the regular season point leader.  With a huge 5 goal and 5 assist weekend, Idan stole the Art Ross from the grasp of Corey who had been the top points leader right from the start of the season.  Both Idan and Corey ended the season even in points with 29, however with the tiebreaker decided by most goals scored, Idan won out with 15 goals vs 14.

Congratulations again to all the winners and a huge thank you to all the volunteers who helped out as referees and scorekeepers.

Oh yeah, and the website is updated. Congratulations to you for making it to the end of this post.
